England batter Ben Duckett created history as he played a record-breaking knock of 165 against Australia in their first match of the 2025 Champions Trophy. Batting with a strike rate of 115.38, Duckett hit 3 sixes and 17 boundaries. Courtesy of his knock, England breached the 350-run mark and put on a total of 351 on the board.
He and Joe Root rescued England and added 158 runs for the third wicket. Root missed out on hitting a century and scored a vital 68 off 78 balls. Jofra Archer remained unbeaten 21 off 10 balls to push England's total past the 350-run mark.

Ben Duckett created history and registered the highest-ever individual score in the Champions Trophy. He broke a 23-year-old record and became the first batsman to score 150 in the ICC event.

Earlier, the record for the highest score belonged to Andy Flower and Nathan Astle. Flower hit 145 off 164 balls against India in the 2002 Champions Trophy. Astle scored an unbeaten 145 off 151 balls against the USA at the Oval in the 2004 Champions Trophy.

Among the England batsmen, Duckett went past Root's tally. The right-handed batsman scored an unbeaten 133 against Bangladesh in the 2017 Champions Trophy. Marcus Trescothick sits at the second spot. He hit 119 against Zimbabwe in 2002.
England, Australia need a win
Both Australia and England came into the game after losing their previous series. England were whitewashed 3-0 in the three-match ODI series against India. Australia lost both their ODIs against Sri Lanka, who haven't qualified for the Champions Trophy.
One of these two teams is set to snap its losing streak. England will face Afghanistan and South Africa in their next two matches on February 26 and March 1, respectively. Australia will take on South Africa and Afghanistan on February 25 and 28, respectively.
