Indian captain Rohit Sharma is back to his vintage best. Rohit's Test career might be in jeopardy but when it comes to ODIs, he is still a force to reckon with. After a string of low scores in Test cricket, there was a big question if Rohit would be able to do well in the ICC Champions Trophy, but the Indian captain has ended all noise. He scored a brutal 76-ball hundred against England in the second ODI and backed it up with a fiery 41 in 36 balls against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy opener.
Rohit would be eyeing to make a bigger impact against Pakistan but the challenge will be stiffer against Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf.
Ahead of the blockbuster clash, former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh made a bold prediction and said the Indian captain will score a 60-ball century if he's in form. Yuvraj said Rohit has no known weakness against fast bowlers and if he gets going, he can single-handedly win the game for India.
"If he’s in form, he will score a century in 60 balls. That’s his quality—once he gets going, he’s not just hitting fours; he’s clearing the ropes with sixes. He is also one of the best players of the short ball. Even if someone bowls at 145-150 kmph, Rohit has the ability to hook it effortlessly. His strike rate is always between 120-140, and on his day, he can single-handedly win you the game, Yuvraj said on a special episode of JioHotstar’s Greatest Rivalry Returns.
While Rohit is back to his very best, veteran Virat Kohli hasn't hit the strides yet. Kohli's form is a concern for the Men in Blue, but Yuvraj feels irrespective of their form, players like Rohit and Virat will always be match-winners for India.
"Rohit Sharma, whether in form or out of form, it doesn’t matter to me. I would always back my match-winners. In ODI cricket, especially in white-ball formats, he has been India’s biggest match-winner as a batsman, alongside Virat Kohli. If Rohit is struggling but still gets runs, that’s dangerous for the opposition," he added.
Rohit Sharma has a great record against Pakistan. In 19 ODIs, the Indian captain has scored 873 runs at an average of 51.35 and an average of 92.38, with two centuries and eight fifties
