Virat Kohli's miserable run continued in India's Champions Trophy opener against Bangladesh as the batter was dismissed for a mere 22 in 38 balls. Kohli's form is a massive headache for India. The batter struggled in Tests, but he was expected to find form in ODIs - a format he plays best, however, he couldn't get going. He didn't do much in the three-match ODI series against England and looked uncomfortable against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, Kohli's low returns have earned him heavy criticism from the fans. A video recently went viral on social media where upset fans mocked Kohli with 'Chokli' and 'No.1 Test Batsman' chants as he came out to shake hands with Bangladesh players after India's win. The authenticity of the video cannot be verified though.
India will next play Pakistan on February 23 and Kohli will look to get the monkey off his back against the Men in Green. Every time Kohli plays against Pakistan, he brings out his best game, and India would hope that the veteran India batter finds his mojo against Pakistan. Kohli has scored 678 runs against Pakistan in 16 ODIs at an average of 52, including three hundreds and two fifties.
Meanwhile, India would be delighted to pick a win over Bangladesh as they now need just one win out of the two games to qualify for the semifinal. The conditions in Dubai were helpful for spinners and Pakistan don't have a genuine wicket-taking spinner. India, on the other hand, have a plethora of spinners. It can all come down to how spinners perform on the day. The match will be important for Pakistan as they suffered a defeat to New Zealand in the first game. If Pakistan lose to India, they'll most likely be out of the semifinal race for the ICC Champions Trophy.
