  • Axar made his Champions Trophy debut
Axar Patel's first over on his Champions Trophy debut against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday (February 20) was filled with drama as the star Indian all-rounder dismissed Tanzid Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim on the second and third balls of his spell.
With Bangladesh reeling at 35-5, Axar produced a stunning delivery on the hat-trick ball to Jaker Ali, who was facing his first delivery of the innings. The Bangladesh number seven batter was left bamboozled by the left-arm pacer and edged a delivery for what should have been a regulation catch for Rohit Sharma at first slip.
However, the Indian captain had a rare loss of concentration just as Axar and the Indian players started to celebrate and dropped the catch.
After missing out on a historic hat-trick, Axar opened up on Rohit's dropped catch in the innings break. Axar expressed disappointment but refused to blame Rohit and stated that it is something that can happen to anyone.
"A lot happened. I didn't know if it (Tanzid Hasan wicket) was out, but KL appealed and it was out. Then I go the second wicket. The third one, when the edge was found, I thought I got my hat-trick. It was an eventful over. I started to celebrate and then I saw it (Rohit dropping the catch). I didn't react and just came back. It's part of the game," said Axar to the host broadacaster in a mid-innings interview.
