India are currently taking on Bangladesh in their opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025. A lot was expected of Virat Kohli as he entered into the tournament on the back of finding some form in the ODI series vs England. However, he did not perform well with the bat, as he got out after scoring a struggling 22-run innings. However, even before coming out to bat, the Indian cricketing superstar equalled a massive record.
In the first innings, Virat Kohli took the catch to dismiss Jaker Ali off a delivery from Mohammed Shami. This was an important moment in the match, as the 154-run stand between Jaker and Towhid Hridoy was finally broken. Kohli took the 156th catch of his ODI career.
He thus equalled the record of being the Indian with the most number of catches in the ODI format. Mohammed Azharuddin als has taken 156 catches in his career.
Here are the Indians with the most catches in ODI history:
Virat Kohli- 156
Mohammad Azharuddin- 156
Sachin Tendulkar- 140
Rahul Dravid- 124
Suresh Raina- 102
Virat Kohli missed out from narrowly being the fastest batter to 14,000 ODI runs. He needed just 37 runs to go past the milestone and could only manage 22. He now needs to score 15 runs against Pakistan to achieve this feat.

Rohit Sharma Creates History Vs Bangladesh

While Virat Kohli failed with the bat, Rohit Sharma played a quickfire 41-run knock. He thus went past a massive milestone by crossing the 11,000-run mark in ODIs. He thus became the 10th batter in history and the 4th batter from India to achieve the milestone.
Rohit also becomes the second fastest batter in history in terms of innings to reach 11,000 ODI runs. He has done this in his 261st innings. He is behind Virat Kohli who scored 11,000 ODI runs in 222 innings. He overtakes Sachin Tendulkar who scored 11,000 ODI runs in 276 innings.
