India are currently taking on Bangladesh in their opening match of the Champions Trophy 2025. One of the players who everyone had their eyes on was Mohammed Shami, especially since he is expected to lead the Indian pace attack in the absence of an injured Jasprit Bumrah. Shami has always performed well for the Men in Blue in ICC tournaments, and he continued his streak in his first ICC tournament appearance since his ankle injury.

Mohammed Shami finished with figures of 5/53 in his 10 overs against Bangladesh. He thus picked up a five-wicket haul in his debut in the Champions Trophy. In addition, he has four five-wicket hauls in the ODI World Cup, the most by any bowler in history. Shami has now become the first bowler in history to take 5 five-wicket hauls in ICC tournaments.
Shami also becomes only the second Indian bowler after Ravindra Jadeja to take a five-wicket haul in the Champions Trophy.

Mohammed Shami Breaks Multiple Records Vs Bangladesh

Mohammed Shami started off with the wicket of Soumya Sarkar in the very first over. He then followed it up with thescalp of Mehidy Hasan Miraz. In the latter half of the innings, he took the wicket of Jaker Ali breaking the 154-run stand between him and Towhid Hridoy. He finished off with the late wickets of Tanzim Hasan Shakib and Taskin Ahmed.
Shami now has 73 wickets in ICC tournaments, the most by any Indian bowler. He went past Zaheer Khan who has 71 wickets in ICC tournaments.
Mohammed Shami now has 202 wickets in ODI cricket. He has now become the fastest bowler in history to take 200 ODI wickets in terms of balls bowled. The star Indian pacer has done so in 5126 balls breaking the record of Mitchell Starc who took 200 ODI wickets in 5240 balls. In terms of matches, Shami becomes the fastest Indian and the join-fastest overall to achieve the feat, doing so in 104 ODIs.
