Virat Kohli has the chance to create history against Pakistan in the blockbuster 2025 Champions Trophy clash will take place at the Dubai International Stadium on February 23, the Men in Blue could ensure that they have one foot in the semi-final and their arch-rivals are all but knocked out of the first ICC tournament they are hosting in 29 years.
Kohli started the tournament on a poor note after a sluggish knock of 22 runs in 38 balls which included just one boundary and came at a strike-rate of 57.89. The ex-Indian captain could play his 299th ODI against what has been his favourite opponents across formats.
Kohli needs just 15 runs in the clash against Pakistan to set a massive world record and become the quickest player to reach 14,000 ODI runs. The 36-year-old will also be the first player in history to reach the milestone in less than 300 innings. Sachin Tendulkar And Kumar Sangakkara are the only players so far to reach 14,000 runs.
Fastest Players To 14,000 ODI Runs
Player Innings To 14000 ODI Runs Year Reached
Sachin Tendulkar 350 2006
Kumar Sangakkara 378 2015
As things stand, Kohli has scored 13985 runs in 286 ODI innings at an average of 57.78 with 50 tons and 73 half-centuries to his name. No player in ODI cricket history has more than Kohli. During the 2023 World Cup, Kohli went past Tendulkar's tally of 49 centuries.

Virat Kohli Struggles For Form

Kohli has been struggling with a form of late after a disastrous tour of Australia in which he scored just 190 runs in five Test with his century in Perth as the lone 50+ score. In the three-match Test series against at home, the Indian batting legend made just 93 runs in six innings. Before that, he got just 58 runs in three innings during the tour of Sri Lanka in which India played three ODI games.
Kohli missed the first ODI against England earlier this year due to a knee injury and was dismissed for a knock of five runs in the second ODI at Cuttack. He made a half-century in the third ODI at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In five of his last six innings, Kohli has been dismissed by a leg-spinner.
