India made a surprise move and dropped Varun Chakravarthy from the playing XI for the Champions Trophy 2025 match vs Bangladesh. Varun was added to the India squad for the ICC Champions Trophy after his stunning performance against England in the T20I series. India brought in Ravindra Jadeja in the XI in place of Varun. Jadeja was rested for the third ODI against England. The move could be inspired by the fact that Varun hasn't played a lot of ODI cricket and India wanted to go in with a tried and tested combination for the first game.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. Rohit was happy as he wanted to chase. Bangladesh's decision to bat raised a few eyebrows as chasing teams have done well in Dubai.

"I would have fielded first. We have played a few years back here so we felt ball comes on better under lights. All looking good. Everyone is fit and fine to go. Let's hope we start well. There is no looking back, every game becomes very important in this tournament. Only Varun misses out from the last ODI we played, Jadeja comes back and Arshdeep misses and Shami comes back," Rohit Sharma said at the toss.
India would be eyeing a winning start to the campaign. They have a superior team to Bangladesh but the Tigers are no walkovers by any means. Bangladesh have upset India a couple of times in ICC events and Asia Cup and India would be wary of the threat they bring along.
With New Zealand winning against Pakistan, they have moved closer to a berth in the semifinal, leaving just one slot up for grabs. A win today will get India closer as well and they would need a win against Pakistan or New Zealand to go through. If India go down today, they will be in a spot of bother as they will have to beat Pakistan and New Zealand to keep their hopes alive.
Why India Are Playing Matches In Dubai?
India are playing their matches in Dubai after they refused to tour Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy. The BCCI and PCB had long negotiations before the PCB agreed to host the tournament in a hybrid model, with Dubai being chosen as the venue for India's matches.
