Axar Patel missed out on an opportunity to etch his name in history books after a dropped catch from Rohit Sharma during the India-Bangladesh 2025 Champions Trophy match. Playing his first 50-over ICC event, Axar kicked off the proceedings on a memorable note and dismissed Tanzid Hasan on the second ball of the 9th over.
The left-arm spinner followed up with Mushfiqur Rahim's wicket on the very next ball. India placed two fielders at slips, with one of them being Rohit, for the hat-trick ball.
Jaker Ali edged the ball to the first slip but Rohit dropped an easy catch. The India captain couldn't believe it and vented out of frustration by slapping the ground. He quickly apologised to the bowler as well. Social media was flooded with memes following Rohit's dropped catch. Here's a look at some of the best memes -
Axar would have become the first Indian to take a hat-trick in the Champions Trophy had Rohit held on to that catch. The dropped chance has proven to costly for India as Jaker Ali and Towhrid Hridoy have added more than 50 runs for the sixth wicket. Bangladesh are 86/5 after 23 overs. They were reeling at 35/5 after Mushfiqur's wicket.
The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led side will aim to breach the 200-run mark and put on a defendable total on the board. India would be hoping to bowl out Bangladesh under a score of 150.
No Arshdeep Singh in playing XI
India made a shocking call and didn't include Arshdeep Singh in the playing XI. Harshit Rana and Mohammed Shami are two frontline pacers while Hardik Pandya is the third pacer in the playing XI.
Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are two spin-bowling all-rounders in the final XI. Kuldeep Yadav is also part of the playing XI. KL Rahul is keeping the wickets as India continued to bench Rishabh Pant.
