Virat Kohli has stated that he is fond of the ICC Champions Trophy and its format, which demands that the eight participating teams be at their best from the outset.
Comparing it with the shortest format of the game, Kohli said, "In ODI format, it creates the pressure of a T20 World Cup. There also you have three or four games in the league stage. If you don't start well, you are under pressure. The pressure is from the first game itself and that is why I like it, you have to be at your best from game one."
"The tournament is happening after a long time. I have always liked this tournament. It represents consistency as you have to be in the top 8 of the rankings (to qualify). The level of competition is always good," Kohli told Star Sports.
Kohli will be aiming for a bagful of runs in the tournament after a tough Test tour of Australia.
Kohli was also backed to return to his run-scoring form by former India player Robin Uthappa.
"Virat will score heavily this year and I think he's going to start doing that from here. I think Virat is there and thereabouts. He will be among runs very, very soon," Uthappa, who has played with Kohli for India and RCB, told PTI Videos in an exclusive interview on Wednesday.
"I mean the standard of runs that we are used to seeing Virat score. So, I think it's just a matter of time." he observed.
