Pakistan are currently taking on New Zealand in the first match of the Champions Trophy 2025 at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. The Kiwis made a meal of the Pakistani bowlers in the first innings as they slammed 320/5. Thus Pakistan need to breach the record of the highest successful run chase in Champions Trophy history in order to win this match. However, the home side got off to the worst possible start in the powerplay as Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Saud Shakeel helped Pakistan create an embarrassing record.
Pakistan registered a score of 22/2 in the first powerplay i.e the first 10 overs of the innings where just two fielders are allowed outside the 30-yard circle. This is now the lowest-ever powerplay total by a side at home in the tournament. In fact, Pakistan become the first team in history to register three scores of less than 25 in the powerplay in the history of the Champions Trophy.

Tom Latham, Will Young Centuries Power New Zealand To 320/5
