KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Pakistan will face India in February 23
- Pakistan are on the brink of being knocked out
- Pakistan are likely to make multiple changes in playing XI
After starting their tournament with an embarrassing 60-run defeat against New Zealand in Karachi, Pakistan will head to Dubai for a blockbuster clash against arch-rivals India, which is now a must-win clash for the Mohammed Rizwan-led side as they will be dependent on a miracle to qualify if they lose to the Men in Blue.
The Men in Green are likely to overhaul their playing XI and could be forced into a big change after Fakhar Zaman suffered an injury blow. The 34-year-old walked off the field after the second ball of the match and spent a long time. Although he did return to the field, he was visibly in pain during his spirited knock and struggling to run.
With just four days before the big match against India, it remains to be seen if Fakhar is fit. Pakistan faces a tough call for the opening spot as he is their only specialist opener, and they have already opted for a makeshift option by promoting Babar Azam in the batting order.
Usman Khan is likely to take Fakhar's opening spot. Saud Shakeel has made scores of just 15, 8, and 6 since his ODI comeback in the tri-series, and his ODI record is substandard with an average of just 24.21. The co-hosts of the tournament could opt for a change in the middle order and give Kamran Ghulam a chance.
Returning from injury Haris Rauf had a forgettable outing as he conceded 83 runs in 10 overs. Against a strong Indian batting unit, a change in the bowling unit is expected, which could mean a chance for Mohammad Hasnain or Faheem Ashraf. Although Ashraf played the tri-series final, he was not trusted with the ball by Rizwan.
Pakistan Likely XI vs India: Usman Khan, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Rizwan (WK/Captain), Agha Salman, Tayyab Tahir, Khushdil Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Mohammad Hasnain, Abrar Ahmed
