Pakistan cricket team suffered an early setback in their opening encounter of the ICC Champions Trophy against New Zealand in Karachi on Wednesday. This was after Fakhar Zaman was forced off the field after suffering an injury only on the second ball of the tournament.
It was Pakistan who won the toss and elected to bowl first. With Shaheen Afridi steaming in, Kiwi batter Will Young defended the first delivery and got three off the next when it was a tad bit fuller in length. Young drove the half-volley through extra cover, and Fakhar Zaman, standing at mid-off, chased after it.
However, just as he put a dive, it seemed like he had done some damage to his knee. He was immediately taken off the field and was replaced by Kamran Ghulam.
Pakistan had won the last edition of the tournament in 2017.
The eight-nation ICC showpiece marks the first major global tournament hosted by Pakistan in nearly 30 years.
