The ICC Champions Trophy got underway in Pakistan, marking the return of an ICC event in the country for the first time in 29 years.
However, despite the home team in action against a formidable Kiwis, the crowd turnout at the National Stadium, Karachi, was low, leading to a lot of chatter on social media.
"Great to see the champions trophy being played in Pakistan .. First major event since 1996 .. Have they forgotten to tell the locals it’s on .. Where is the crowd ??," asked the former England captain in a social media post.
This led to a lot of reactions from fans with many of them pointing out the ticket prices for the low turnout.
"The issue with the crowd is the ticket price" - wrote one.
"Money is definitely the problem here" - pointed out another.
"Its a hot n humid day. Karachi has witnessed a change in temperature in last 3-4 days. U'll definitely see rise in crowd later in evening," stated another.
"They claimed tickets got sold out in no time. Looks like all black marketers are repenting now," said yet another cricket fan.
"The event is not promoted enough in Pakistan. Poor turnout for a home game to be honest," argued another.
