India are all set to undergo a massive overhaul in their Test squad after they failed to qualify for the WTC 2025 for the first time ever, after suffering series defeats against New Zealand and home, and to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The selectors and tam management would be looking at performances in the Ranji Trophy this season. One player who has been impressive in this season of India's premier domestic tournament is Shardul Thakur. However, he was one of the big names who remained unsold in the IPL 2025 auction. Despite this setback, Shardul is set to take a massive step to boost his selection in India's tour of Egland in June.

Shardul Thakur has officially signed for Essex and will play the 2025 season of the English County Championship, which is England's premier domestic competition. The season begins on April 4, which just 2 weeks after the start of the IPL 2025 on March 22.

The timing of the County Championship is crucial. If Shardul Thakur manages to perform well in the tournament in England, then he will be right back in contention for a spot in the India squad that travels to England for a five-match Test series that spans from June to August.

"I am feeling excited to join Essex this summer. Personally, it brings new challenges and opportunities to showcase my talent and skills. County cricket is something I have always wanted to experience, and I am glad that I'll be representing the Eagles" Shardul said after joining the club

After missing his spot in the India Test team, Shardul Thakur has made a statement with his performances for defending champions Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 2024/25 season. The star all-rounder has scored 439 runs and taken 34 wickets this season at an average of 34.

Shardul also became the first player in history to score a century and take a hat-trick in the same Ranji Trophy season.
