  • Pakistan are hosting an ICC tournament after 29 years
Fans got a first glimpse of India's Champions Trophy jersey on Tuesday (February 17), just about 48 hours before the first match of the Rohit Sharma-led side against Bangladesh in Dubai after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted images from the International Cricket Council's (ICC) media day session.
A highlight of the jersey, which many were quick to take notice of, was the presence of Pakistan's name on the jersey. The official reveal of the Men in Blue's playing kit ended a controversy that broke out last month over whether India will carry the name of their host nation after not doing so in the 2023 Asia Cup.

Why Does India's Champions Trophy 2025 Jersey Carry Pakistan's Name?

Although India are playing all matches at the Dubai International Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Pakistan is the official host nation of the tournament. The International Cricket Council (ICC) rules mandate that everyone must have the logo of the competition on their jerseys. As Pakistan were awarded solo hosting rights of the competition, it is only their name that is present on the tournament's emblem.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed in January while speaking to the media, that India will follow ICC regulations.
"BCCI will follow every uniform-related ICC rule during the Champions Trophy," Saikia told PTI.
For those unversed, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the mega event, having not played any cricket in the country since the 2008 Asia Cup. After a major deadlock, it was decided that the tournament would be played in a hybrid model with India playing all their league stage matches in Dubai. The first semi-final (4th March) will also take place in the UAE. Meanwhile, the final will take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore but if India qualifies, Dubai will host the summit clash.
