Pickleball: Cheeky Cheetahs Crowned TNPPL Champions in Thrilling Finale.
The inaugural season of the Tamil Nadu Pickleball Premier League (TNPPL) culminated in a nail-biting final, with Cheeky Cheetahs (CC) emerging victorious after a hard-fought battle against Salem Slammers (SS).
Under immense pressure, the Cheetahs held their nerve, played with precision and determination, and secured a thrilling 25-18 victory. They clinched the championship title and etched their name in history as the first-ever TNPPL champions.
The match began with the Cheetahs taking an early lead, winning the first 2-pointer men's doubles match, led by a commanding performance from Ganesh Kumar. However, Salem Slammers bounced back in the women's doubles match, leveling the score at 2-2.
The momentum swung again in the crucial 3-pointer match, where Vimalraj Jayachandran, the league's Most Valuable Player, showcased his brilliance, guiding his team to a pivotal victory. With the score now at 5-2, the Cheeky Cheetahs extended their lead further in the 1-point men's doubles match. Franchise Owner Adithyaa Srikkanth himself stepped onto the court and delivered a decisive win, pushing the score to 6-2 in favour of the Cheeky Cheetahs.
However, Salem Slammers were far from done. In a remarkable display of resilience, they won the next three matches back-to-back, staging a stunning comeback and taking an 8-6 lead. The entire tournament boiled down to the final team match—a high-stakes 3-pointer battle in which the winner would lift the championship trophy. With the title on the line, the Cheetahs emerged as victors.
Cheeky Cheetahs were awarded a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh as the newly crowned champions, while Salem Slammers, the deserving runners-up, received Rs 2 lakh.
The fight for third place saw The Lob Mob and Chennai Dupr Terminatrz deliver outstanding performances throughout the tournament, with both teams securing a well-deserved Rs 1 lakh each.
With TNPPL Season 1 setting an incredibly high standard, the league has firmly positioned itself as a premier pickleball event in India. Fans and players alike now look forward to an even more exhilarating Season 2 next year.
