Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will kick off their IPL title defence against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in a home game on March 22. The Shreyas Iyer-led side defeated Pat Cummins' Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL 2024 final to lift the trophy for the third time. Iyer will lead Punjab Kings in IPL 2025.
KKR shared a couple of posts from their past fixtures against RCB after IPL 2025's schedule announcement. One of their posts was a direct dig at RCB. The post shows KKR's players celebrating from the game in which RCB were bowled out for 49. Led by Virat Kohli, RCB registered the lowest total in IPL's history. They continue to sit at the top spot in this list. IPL 2017 was Gambhir's last season as KKR's captain.
The second pic in KKR's viral post shows Andre Russell celebrating during his memorable 13-ball 48 run knock against RCB. The match took place in IPL 2019. Courtesy of Russell's heroics, KKR chased down the target of 206 in 19.1 overs.
After facing RCB, KKR will travel to Guwahati to take on Rajasthan Royals. They will play their second home game against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 3.
KKR yet announce new captain
Kolkata Knight Riders are among two teams which haven't announced their captains yet. Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer look to be the frontrunners to take over the top job. Rahane has captained Rajasthan Royals in IPL.
KKR surprisingly released Shreyas Iyer before the IPL 2025 mega-auction. They tried to re-sign him but didn't show much interest in him. Iyer joined Punjab Kings for Rs 26.75 crore.
Delhi Capitals too haven't named their captain yet. KL Rahul and Faf du Plessis seem to be the frontrunners for the top job. du Plessis captained RCB from IPL 2022 to 2024. They reached the second round of two seasons but didn't play an IPL final under him.
