Days before the beginning of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has reportedly decided not to use the exclusive VIP box allocated to him in Dubai and instead opted to watch the games from the general enclosure.
According to a report on Samaa TV, Naqvi has chosen to forgo the $400,000 VIP hospitality box that the UAE Cricket Board allocated to him. Surprisingly, he also took the call to sell the 30-seat luxury box to boost the PCB's revenue and soak in the experience of watching a game with fans.
The PCB chairman has also mentioned that the board will cover the expenses of approximately 18 billion rupees on the upgrade of the stadiums in Karachi, Lahore and Pindi by using the gate money and other seating receipts from the ICC.
Despite this personal decision, Naqvi emphasised that Pakistan is fully prepared and ready to host the marquee event.
"Pakistan is ready for the Champions Trophy," he said in a statement quoted by GEO News.
Highlighting the thorough preparations, he said, "As with any ICC event, the host nation must submit a comprehensive security plan for review by ICC security experts and representatives from participating countries. Our security plan was presented to the ICC Board in October 2024 and received unanimous approval."
This marks the first time Pakistan will host an ICC tournament since 1996.
"This plan ensures that all necessary protocols are in place to provide a safe and seamless experience for teams, officials, and spectators alike. Pakistan is fully prepared to host the world's best cricketers, officials, foreign spectators, and commercial partners."
He also stressed how the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is an opportunity to showcase Pakistan's ability to host top-tier international cricket.
"We recognized that this event was an opportunity to showcase Pakistan's ability to host top-tier international cricket, ensuring that our facilities meet the highest global standards for players, officials, and fans alike - both those attending in person and those watching via broadcast," he concluded.
