William Byron secured victory in the Daytona 500 on Sunday night after a rain-marred race led to multiple caution flags and two overtime laps.

The final stretch saw multiple crashes, with Byron emerging unscathed to claim his second consecutive Daytona 500 win.

Denny Hamlin, a three-time winner, was leading with one lap to go when a collision involving Cole Custer and Chase Briscoe sent his No. 11 car spinning.

The incident also involved Austin Cindric, but the caution flag was not raised, allowing Byron to push through to the finish line.

Tyler Reddick, Jimmie Johnson, Briscoe, and John Nemechek rounded out the top five.

Earlier in the race, a wreck with five laps to go saw Ryan Preece’s No. 60 car lift off the ground after contact with Christopher Bell’s No. 20, but Preece walked away unharmed.

Another major crash with 14 laps remaining eliminated Ryan Blaney, who had been in contention before Ricky Stenhouse Jr.’s front-left tire made contact with him.

The race faced multiple rain delays, with weather disrupting proceedings at Daytona International Speedway.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump attended the event, leading drivers on a pre-race lap and addressing NASCAR’s competitive spirit.
