Former US tennis star Andre Agassi has claimed that being a pickleball legend is what he is known for, in a funny twist to his storied tennis career. He made the surprising transformation in a brilliant teaser for the upcoming Netflix film 'The Electric State', starring British actress Millie Bobby Brown and American actor Chris Pratt.
Despite being known for his legendary tennis career, which involved winning eight Grand Slams, Agassi embraced his new persona in the teaser for the film.
Agassi recounted winning his maiden pickleball major, having good memories about the fame, the prize money and a lovely evening spent with the famous mascot Mr Peanut.
"Hi, I’m Andre Agassi and I’m famous for one thing. Being a pickleball legend. I had this unbelievable coach called the Mech Bot. He had four arms. I mean, they can hit the ball up to 600 miles an hour off both wings. The first time I got my racket on it, I had some success, I hit it dead center," Agassi said while speaking on Netflix.
"When I won my first Major in pickleball, nobody expected me to do it. Everything started rolling in. I mean, it was the success on the court, the prize money checks. I mean, when I got to meet Mr. Peanut, we had one of these best evenings I think I’ve ever had," Agassi added.
For the record, the former US tennis star won 60 ATP Tour-level singles titles, including eight majors, completing the career Grand Slam. Agassi won an Olympic gold medal as well, besides the 1990 ATP Tour World Championships, 17 Masters titles and was part of the winning US Davis Cup sides in 1990, 1992 and 1995.
Agassi is one of five men in the Open Era to achieve a career Grand Slam in singles and one of three men to complete the career Golden Slam in singles.
In April 2023, Agassi participated with Michael Chang, Andy Roddick and John McEnroe in the first live airing of Pickleball on ESPN in the Million Dollar Pickleball Slam at the Hard Rock Casino in Hollywood, Fla, and is now one of the major proponents of the sport worldwide.
