Virat Kohli will enter the 2025 Champions Trophy with the aim of joining a rare list of Australian players and winning the elusive title for the second time in his career alongside Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja, who were all part of the side that lifted the prize under MS Dhoni's leadership in 2013.
Kohli will be playing in the mega tournament for the fourth time, which will be the most among active players. The 36-year-old played the 2009 edition in South Africa, just a year after making his international debut. Post his key role in India's triumph in 2023, he captained India to 2017, where they reached the final but lost to Pakistan in the summit clash.
Virat Kohli's Incredible Champions Trophy World Record
The 2025 Champions Trophy is likely to be the last time Kohli plays the competition, and the Indian cricket legend will aim to keep his incredible record. The 36-year-old is the only player in history to score more than 300 runs in the marquee event with an average of more than 80. Among players to score more than 300 runs in the competition, the three players with the best average are Indians, with Shikhar Dhawan and Sourav Ganguly second and third on the list.

Kohli has five half-centuries in the Champions Trophy but is yet to score a century in the tournament with a highest score of 96, which came against Bangladesh in the 2017 semi-final at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The then-Indian captain remained unbeaten on the crease as Rohit Sharma scored a ton in the Men in Blue while chasing a score of 265 by a nine-wicket margin with 59 balls to spare.
Kohli is the 11th-highest run-getter in Champions Trophy history, but no player above him will be playing in the 2025 edition. If the Indian cricket legend scores 263 runs this year, he will go on top of the list. Currently, Chris Gayle leads the run-scoring chart with 791 runs in 17 matches at an average of 52.73 with three centuries.
Kohli was the top-scorer in the 2013 final between India and England, which was reduced to a 20-over game. The Indian batting talisman 43 runs in 34 balls as India posted a total of 129 and later won by six runs.
