Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has said that the 0-3 series loss to India will create a big dent in England's confidence and Ben Duckett's comments are just an attempt from him to hide his team's failures. The latter was once again in the news for remarks he made during the recent ODI series against India, continuing to earn himself a poor reputation.
After his remarks that England didn't care about the results in the ODI series against India ahead of the 3-0 whitewash, Duckett was criticised by many in the English media for his casual approach to a crucial bilateral series.
The latest person to criticise Duckett is Ashwin, who used his YouTube channel to slam the former regarding these comments and previous controversial statements.
"No matter what Ben Duckett says, going into the Champions Trophy, this series loss will create a big dent in their confidence. He has said similar things in the past, saying Yashasvi Jaiswal has learnt to play aggressive cricket from England’s Bazball style," Ashwin said while speaking on his YouTube channel.
Duckett became the target of many memes after that comment, with any attacking knock from Jaiswal getting taglines like 'credit to Ben Duckett'.
“I know Ben Duckett and his penchant for humour, but this was no joke and it is like you are hiding your failures behind humour," Ashwin said.
“Your 2023 ODI World Cup was pretty bad as well. It isn’t like they have been in bad form for over two to three months. This has been the case for four years now. Despite having such a talented group they are not able to justify their potential," Ashwin added.
England struggled throughout the white-ball tour of India, losing seven games and just winning the solitary one in the T20Is. They will begin their Champions Trophy campaign against arch-rivals Australia on Saturday, February 22 in Lahore.
