Two women were shot during the Philadelphia Eagles’ Super Bowl celebration near the parade route on Friday, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore stated that a man wearing an Eagles jersey opened fire along Ben Franklin Parkway. Both victims are in stable condition.
Authorities are investigating whether the shooter knew the women and are working to determine a motive.
The shooting follows a similar incident during last year’s Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade, where local radio personality Lisa Lopez-Galvan was killed and more than 22 others were injured in a dispute involving two juveniles.
Philadelphia has seen previous celebrations turn tragic.
After the Eagles won the NFC Championship against the Washington Commanders, a college student died after falling from a street pole.
Police continue to investigate the latest shooting as the city grapples with security concerns at large-scale events.
