England had a forgettable series against India and the visiting team only managed to win one out of 8 matches in the series. England's white-ball tour of India kicked off with 5 T20Is. India won the T20I series 4-1 to continue their domination in the shortest format. Rohit Sharma-led India didn't give an inch to England and whitewashed them in the three-match ODI series.
The Men in Blue registered comfortable wins in all three games and they will enter the Champions Trophy as one of the top contenders. England's struggles against India have raised questions over their preparations for the ICC event.
Kevin Pietersen, who was in India for the commentary duties, exposed England after the series defeat and made a shocking reveal. As per Pietersen, Joe Root was the only player to take part in the nets after the defeat in the first ODI in Nagpur.
"I’m sorry, but I am absolutely gobsmacked that England did not have ONE team practice session since losing the 1st ODI and losing the T20 series. How can this be? Seriously, how? I believe Joe Root was the only player to have a net this series, post Nagpur. There isn’t a single sportsman on this planet who can honestly say, that they’d improve without practicing whilst they’re getting beaten," the former England captain wrote on X.
"There also cannot be one player in that England side that can sit on the plane leaving India and saying to themselves, they did everything they can to try help England win. And for that, I’m am actually incredibly sad this evening. Losing is fine if you’re giving your best to improve everyday and if England didn’t train during this series then they didn’t try. Heartbreaking for any England fan!"
England haven't been at their best of late but the selectors decided to retain Jos Buttler as the captain. There could be a change in the leadership role if the Three Lions struggle in the Champions Trophy.
They will face Australia in their first game of the tournament on February 22. England will take on Afghanistan and South Africa in their next two matches on February 26 and March 1, respectively.
