Not every day you see fans lined up in long queues since early morning for a Ranji Trophy match, however, the buzz around the Delhi vs Railways match was different despite Delhi being knocked out of the knockout race. The sole reason for this massive excitement among the fans was the return of veteran Virat Kohli who turned up for the state in the Ranji Trophy for the first time since 2012. Kohli made himself available after BCCI mandated all players to play domestic cricket following a horrible run in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where India suffered a 3-1 defeat.

Meanwhile, the Kohli chants stormed the Arun Jaitley Stadium after the veteran came out to field after Delhi opted to bowl. One of the fans also breached the security at the Arun Jaitley Stadium and touched Virat Kohli's feet. Kohli stayed calm and got the man up before security charged in and took the fan away. Kohli also requested the security to not harm the fan.

This is not a one-off incident where fan breached security to meet a player. Though not appreciated, the fans often interrupt the play to meet their favourite players. It has happened to Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and many other cricketers in the past but the players have been gracious enough to not react in a bad way.

Meanwhile, Kohli had a horrible run in Australia where he consistently poked at deliveries outside off which resulted in his downfall. Kohli's place in Team India is under scanner and the batter needs to find form to make a case for a place in the India squad for the England tour. If Kohli can fare well in the Ranji game, it would do his confidence a world of good. India would need an in-form Kohli heading into the ICC Champions Trophy. A series of decent performances across formats in the build-up to the five-Test series against England could make Kohli return to his vintage best.
