Ravindra Jadeja was among the star Indian players who turned up for their respective state teams in the Ranji Trophy. Jadeja, who retired from T20I cricket after the 2024 World Cup, achieved huge records upon his return to the first-class tournament. He took the field for Saurashtra against Delhi cricket team. Rishabh Pant turned up for Delhi.
While the majority of focus was on Rishabh, it was Jadeja who stole the limelight. The star all-rounder toppled Delhi's batting and took a 12-fer. He took a five-fer in Delhi's first innings and followed up with 7 wickets.
Jadeja dismissed Rishabh in both innings. He achieved a huge milestone and completed 550 wickets in first-class cricket. Jadeja, who played his first Ranji Trophy match in 2 years, took the 36th-fer of his red-ball career. He has 15 five-fers for India in Tests. Jadeja has ten 10-wicket hauls. He has achieved this feat thrice for India.
Interestingly, it was his third consecutive five-fer in the Ranji Trophy. He took a five-fer in the 2022/23 season before making his India comeback. Jadeja now has more than 550 wickets and over 7500 runs in first-class cricket.
While Jadeja shone in Saurashtra's win, Rishabh couldn't save Delhi from a 10-wicket defeat. Playing his first Ranji Trophy match since the 2017/18 season, Rishabh scored 1 run in the first innings and departed for 17 the next time he came out to bat.
Rohit Sharma flops
Rohit Sharma continued his below-par form in first-class cricket and managed scores of 3 and 28 across two innings. He looked confident during his 28-run knock in Mumbai's second innings but couldn't convert it into a big one.
Rohit has abysmal first-class numbers in the past one year and he could lose his spot in the Test team. The India captain stood down from the playing XI for the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney.
