The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put an end to a controversy regarding the 2025 Champions Trophy logo with debates over whether the Rohit Sharma-led team's jersey will feature the name of Pakistan or not.
Over the last few days, reports in Indian media have suggested that the 2024 T20 World Cup champions will not include the name of the host nation. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has confirmed that Pakistan's name will feature on India's jersey with the Indian cricket team set to follow all International Cricket Council (ICC) mandated regulations.
"We will follow whatever are the ICC guidelines," Saikia told Cricbuzz. "We will follow the ICC directive," Saikia confirmed when asked about Pakistan's name featuring on the official ICC logo of the Champions Trophy.
For those unversed, all teams have to inscribe the tournament logo on their jersey in every ICC event. The official logo for every tournament features a unique design, the name of the tournament, and the host country's name.
The 2025 Champions Trophy has been embroiled in major controversy over the last few months after India refused to travel to Pakistan for the mega event. After more than a month of discussions, the tournament was shifted to a hybrid model.
India will play all their matches in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), including the blockbuster clash against Pakistan on February 23. The final is scheduled to take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, but if India manages to qualify, it will be shifted to Dubai.
A similar model was adopted for the 2023 Asia Cup with Sri Lanka co-hosting the tournament. Pakistan's name did not feature on the jersey of any team in the continental showpiece event.
The 2025 Champions Trophy is the first ICC Event that Pakistan will host in 29 years. The last global event which the Men in Green hosted was the 1996 Cricket World Cup. India have not travelled to Pakistan for any cricket assignment since the 2008 Asia Cup.
