India are currently taking part in the Under-19 Women's World Cup in Malaysia. They got off to a brilliant start to their campaign when they beat West Indies by 9 wickets. They next took on hosts Malaysia in their second group game. This time they completely dominated their opposition winning the match by 10 wickets and 103 balls to spare. The star of the show for the Indian team was left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma. The youngster completely rattled the opposition, as she became the first Indian ever to achieve a massive feat.
In the first three balls of the 13th over of the first innings, Vaishnavi Sharma picked up the wickets of Nur Ain Binti Roslan, Nur Isma Dania and Siti Nazwah. She thus scalped a massive hat-trick, and became the first Indian to achieve the the feat in the history of the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup.
Vaishnavi also became the second player after Madison Landsman of South Africa to take a hat-trick in the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup. Landsman achieved the feat in the 2023 edition of the tournament against Scotland.
Earlier in the innings she also picked up the wickets of Malaysian captain Nur Dania Syuhada and Nuriman Hidayah. She thus picked up a five-wicket haul. In fact, she finished with figures of 5/5 in her 4 overs.
India Decimate Malaysia In U-19 Women's World Cup
Vaishnavi Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief for the Indian team with a five-wicket haul. Aayushi Shkla also provided able support as she took three wickets while Joshitha VJ also chipped in with a wicket. Malaysia were bundled out for a meagre score of just 31 runs. No Malaysian batter could even enter the two-digit mark.
India chased down the target in just 2.5 overs, with opener Gongadi Trishan scoring 27 from 12 balls.
India have already assured themselves of a spot in the Super Six. They next face Sri Lanka in their final group game of January 23.
