Split Coaching A Strict No-No: Former Selector Warns BCCI Not To Go 'The Western Way'

Former Indian cricketer and selector Sunil Joshi has said that Indian cricket should follow its way and not opt for split coaching even when head coach Gautam Gambhir is not able to produce results. After the departure of Rahul Dravid after the T20 World Cup win last year, Gambhir took over as the Indian head coach but his time hasn't been great.
While the Indian team has enjoyed immense success in T20Is, they lost an ODI series to Sri Lanka in their first tour under Gambhir. That was followed by a 0-3 Test series whitewash at the hands of New Zealand and a 1-3 Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat Down Under.
Since then, Gambhir's coaching has come under immense scrutiny, with some fans wanting him to quit while some want the pressure on him to be released with split coaching.
"We should not be going the western way. We should be going our own way, what suits us, because the majority of our players are going to be there for all three formats. Very few exceptions are there who are going to feature (only) in Tests or T20s and ODIs," Joshi said while speaking to The Times of India.
"So it doesn't make any difference. When you have two coaches, there'll be two different views on how to play cricket, although you might say they are all professionals and everything," Joshi added.
England are famous for having two different coaches for the red-ball and white-ball formats. But after their T20 World Cup semifinal defeat to India, then white-ball coach Matthew Mott left and the entire coaching duty was taken up by red-ball coach Brendon McCullum.
Joshi said that he is against the Indian team making a lot of changes in the framework after the recent series loss to Australia.
"I feel there shouldn't be any knee-jerk reactions after the BGT (result). I mean we have lost the BGT, accept it. They (Australia) played better cricket. Let's accept it," Joshi said.
