Star India batter Shreyas Iyer has said that Prithvi Shaw has the great blessing of timing the ball and scoring runs at a great pace, and all he needs is to focus on his work ethic to have a bright future and be back in the scheme of things at the highest level. Notably, Prithvi is now considered a very talented cricketer who lost his way to greatness and was left nowhere.
Shaw's off-field controversies and poor fitness have played a massive role in his downfall. While he has been spotted embroiled in fights off the field, he has looked visibly unfit during his on-field appearances, pulling him down in the eyes of experts and making him an object of pity.
Iyer had earlier said that players could not be babysat and emphasised the requirement for work ethic when asked about Shaw's decline in international cricket.
"Prithvi Shaw also started on a great note. He’s got a great blessing of timing the ball and scoring runs at a great pace. And all of us in the team feel that he is blessed with that phenomenal talent. So, he just has to focus on his work ethic and everything else will follow," Iyer said while speaking to The Indian Express.
Shaw is training to improve his fitness and mount a strong comeback. He was seen at the 50th anniversary celebrations of the Wankhede Stadium as well.
Barring an official confirmation, Shaw is all set to be sidelined for Mumbai's upcoming Ranji Trophy games. He last played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last month, which Mumbai won, but didn't feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
A Mumbai Cricket Association official even said that the team was forced to 'hide' him. He added that during SMAT, they were forced to field with 10 fielders, taking a dig at Shaw's fitness and not considering him one.
