Former India opener WV Raman has revealed that he had a near-death experience and shared a thread on X. Raman, who played 11 Tests and 27 ODIs between 1988 to 1997, revealed that he got fit and covered the India-Ireland ODI game the very next day, but his 3 KM drive to the hospital was very uncomfortable.
"This thread is only to point out that we cannot afford to ignore or dismiss what our body conveys to us: Last Tuesday started off with me consulting my GP due to a viral infection I had. He prescribed a few medicines and an hour later, i had them after food. Cont," he wrote on X.
"Two hours later, I noticed a few hives on my body beginning to spread. I called my Doc and he suggested that I go to the hospital and get an injection for a typical allergic reaction to medicine/food. Might have ignored or delayed but felt a bit of blood surge in my face."
"The sudden breakdown surprised the doctors I spoke to later but kudos to the doctors at the KL Hospital on the ECR in Chennai for keeping their nerve and getting me out of the embrace of death!. I travelled the very next day and did the India - Ireland W series," one of his posts read.
As Raman mentioned, he got fit and covered the game. He now works as a cricket expert. The 59-year-old coached the Indian women's cricket team from 2018 to 2021. Under him, India reached the final of the 2020 T20 World Cup.
Raman has also worked with IPL franchise, Kolkata Knight Riders. He was part of the KKR coaching staff when they lifted the IPL title in 2024. He applied for the position of the men's team's coach in 2024 but missed out.
