Ace India batter Virat Kohli has reportedly had a neck sprain and his participation in the Ranji Trophy is subject to availability, even as just over a month remains for the Champions Trophy. According to a report in The Times of India, Kohli suffered a neck injury and even took an injection to help against it. The Delhi & District Cricket Association though haven't received any updates as of yet.
There has been intense debate around Kohli returning to the Ranji Trophy to regain red-ball form besides skipper Rohit Sharma. Kohli last played in the Ranji Trophy 13 years ago while Rishabh Pant featured in the event last seven years back.
DDCA naming its star players in the list of probables is the norm but their inclusion in the final team is subject to their availability.
"Virat Kohli had a neck sprain and even took an injection for the same. There is a possibility of him skipping the first of the two Ranji Trophy games left and a clear picture could come if the DDCA selectors are given an update," a source told The Times of India.
As of now, Kohli joining the Delhi team at some stage cannot be ruled out and it wouldn't be a shock if he trains with the team in Rajkot before the game begins against Saurashtra. The Delhi team is scheduled to leave on January 20 and will have two training sessions before the game begins.
A senior DDCA official told The Times of India that Kohli's name might be added to the team with 'subject to availability' next to it. The situation will however become clearer after a meeting that is scheduled for Friday afternoon amongst the DDCA officials.
The probables of the team have a net session before the selection committee and head coach Sarandeep Singh sit down to pick the squad.
