The Champions Trophy 2025 is the next big tournament that India will take part in, as they aim to win their second IOCC trophy in less than year, after the T20 World Cup 2024 triumph. The squad for the mega tournament is yet to be announced. Jasprit Bumrah is somewhat of a doubt to be named in the squad, after he suffered from back spasms during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. Amidst these rumours former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has confirmed another pacer who has been out of action due to injury to be a certainty for the Champions Trophy.
Mohammed Shami has returned to Team India after more than a year, when he was selected for the squad for the five-match T20I series against England. In an interaction with Cricbuzz, Dinesh Karthik said that he has been selected to see how his body reacts to Team India action, and if he is ready to go to the Champions Trophy 2025. He also said that there is no doubt that he is going to be part of the Champions Trophy 2025.
“He (Shami) is being put in there (T20Is vs England) not only to see how his body reacts; most importantly, he is there to check if he is ready to go for the Champions Trophy. He is going to be part of the Champions Trophy if he is fit, no doubt about it," Karthik said.
Mohammed Shami last played for Team India in the ODI World Cup 2023 final.
