India are all set to begin their quest for winning the Champions Trophy 2025, when they take the field from February 20 in their first match against Bangladesh. The team are yet to announce their squad for the mega tournament, and one spot that everyone is looking forward to is the opening slot. Rohit Sharma is set to captain the side and also open the batting for the Men in Blue. It is the other spot that is up for grabs. Shibman GIll has been India's first-choice opener in ODIs. However, Virender Sehwag wants someone else to partner Rohit.
In an interaction with the Switch Youtube channel, Virender Sehwag said that India should open with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Champions Trophy 2025. He said that Jaiswal is suitable for ODIs given the way he bats in Tests and T20Is.
"My advice to the selectors would be to give Jaiswal a chance in 50-overs. The way he bats in Tests and T20Is, ODIs is a suitable format for him. Jaiswal should definitely be part of India's ODI set-up," the legendary Indian opener said.
In fact, Yashasvi Jaiswal is yet to debut in ODI cricket. He has shone for India in Tests, and also made his mark in T20Is.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Not Selected In T20I Series Vs England

Yashasvi Jaiswal is considered an integral part of the T20I setup for India. In fact, a report in The Indian Express stated that he was a certainty to be included for the T20I series vs England. However, when BCCI announced the squad for the series, Jaiswal's name was nowhere to be found.
This most likely means that Jaiswal will be part of the squad for the ODI series against England, and then subsequently the Champions Trophy 2025, like many reports have earlier stated. The young opener has thus been given a rest to manage his workload ahead of the important ICC tournament. This could also mean that he might be in contention to become the first-choice opener ahead of Shubman Gill in ODIs.
