India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik grabbed a lot of eyeballs on Wednesday with his brilliant keeping in the ongoing SA20 league. He picked a one-handed screamer for the Paarl Royals during their clash against MI Cape Town. Karthik took an excellent catch to dismiss Afghanistan allrounder Azmatullah Omarzai off the bowling of Dayyaan Galiem in the fifth over of the game to end a threatening opening wicket partnership.
Karthik has already created history after becoming the first player from the country to participate in the SA20 as he was signed as a replacement for Jos Buttler.
What made the catch from Karthik special was that while his initial movement was towards the left, he instinctively dove to his right to hold on to it. Watch the video here:
Put in to bat first, MI Cape Town posted 158/4 in their 20 overs, riding on Rassie van der Dussen's unbeaten 91-run knock. In the chase, Lhuan-dre Pretorius and Joe Root built a 50-run opening partnership before the former was dismissed by Trent Boult.
Pretorius and Mitchell van Buuren then added 51 runs for the second wicket before Rashid Khan dismissed the latter in the 13th over. Pretorius and skipper David Miller then built a 35-run partnership for the third wicket, before the former was run out by Rashid in the 17th over.
But the three partnerships were enough to take the Royals past the finish line in the penultimate over. Karthik scored a six-ball 10 before being run out by Connor Esterhuizen. Pretorius smacked 83 off 52 deliveries, including eight fours and three sixes, building on his brilliant debut knock of 97 at the Boland Park.
Chasing the target, Pretorius benefited from two dropped catches and made MI Cape Town pay, dismantling their bowling attack with power. Omarzai, earlier caught by Karthik, gave away 34 runs in his three overs.
