The second round of the Ranji Trophy will kick off on January 23 and the fans are eagerly waiting for the squad announcement. The majority of focus is on Delhi and Mumbai. Virat Kohli could turn up for Delhi while Rohit Sharma might play for Mumbai. As the fans wait for the official squads, here we have a look at the latest Ranji Trophy updates -
The Times of India has reported that Rishabh Pant is likely to lead Delhi against Saurashtra. DDCA will announce the squad for the away game on Friday (January 17). Rishabh hasn't played a Ranji Trophy game since the 2017/18 season's final. He was the Ranji Trophy captain in that season.
There is no update on Virat Kohli and he hasn't contacted the state association yet. The latest update isn't a positive one and there are high chances of him missing the next game.
Virat last played a Ranji Trophy game against Uttar Pradesh in November 2012. He played his previous domestic game in 2013.
Rohit Sharma has practised with the Mumbai cricket team but he hasn't confirmed his availability yet. The Mumbai selectors will name the squad on January 20. An official word on Rohit should be out before the team announcement. He hasn't played Ranji Trophy since 2015.
As for Yashasvi Jaiswal, he has also practised with the Mumbai team. But he could miss the Ranji Trophy fixture as the national selectors rested him for the T20I series against England.
Meanwhile, there is no update on Ravindra Jadeja. The star all-rounder plays for Saurashtra in domestic cricket. He last played for his state team in the 2022/23 season before making his India comeback.
The players who have been selected in the T20I squad for the England series will skip the Ranji Trophy. The final of the tournament is scheduled to be played from February 26 to March 2.
