A day after it emerged that the BCCI might appoint a new batting coach, the board has reportedly made the appointment. Sitanshu Kotak has joined Team India as its new batting coach and he will work under Gautam Gambhir. Kotak has previously worked with the national team. He was the head coach of the Jasprit Bumrah-led T20I team which toured Ireland in 2023.
The Indian Express has reported that he will join the team before the start of the home series against England. The series will kick off with 5 T20Is. The two teams will lock horns in 3 ODIs in February.
A domestic cricket giant, Kotak scored 8061 runs in 130 first-class matches. The left-handed batsman hit 3083 runs in 89 List A matches. Kotak worked as the assistant coach of the now-defunct IPL franchise, Gujarat Lions. He has also worked with India A cricket team.
He will join the coaching staff which includes Abhishek Nayar, Ryan ten Doeschate, T Dilip and Morne Morkel. Nayar and ten Doeschate are assistant coaches while Dilip is the fielding coach. Morkel is Team India's bowling coach. India don't have a designated batting coach.
